Happy 2018! While today is a great day to start fresh with the turn of the calendar, the only way YOU will start fresh is to do something different than you’ve done in the past.
Just know that I am talking to me while I am talking to you in this post. Sometimes it’s easier to say things than to actually do them, so I know the struggle is real.
As I’m putting together my intentions and commitments for 2018, I’m going about them a little bit differently than in the past. Instead of figuring out exactly HOW I’m going to achieve those things I say I want to achieve, I’m working backwards 90 days at a time and deciding how I want to FEEL at the end of that time frame.
So starting today, and looking ahead to April 1, I’m visualizing how I want to FEEL as a result of the actions I’ve taken.
As someone who writes and speaks for a living, you’d think this activity would be a piece of cake. But it’s not – at least not for me – because I’ve never really stopped to figure out how I actually want to FEEL. In fact, I’m not even sure what words to use when describing feelings.
So I’m taking out one of my favorite resources – Danielle LaPorte’s “The Desire Map” – to get some ideas. On pages 24-25 she lists a lot of words describing feelings for those of us who need them.
As you work to determine how you want to feel, you will begin to take on the persona of a person to whom that feeling comes naturally. When you determine the feeling, get clear on WHY that’s important to you. Another resource will come in handy here: Simon Sinek’s “Find Your WHY.”
Once your WHY is established, the HOW will show up. The WHY is your job: the HOW is up to the Universe/God/Spirit/Higher Power. This is where faith and trust comes in.
So, as you are setting yourself up for the best year of your life, know that you do have to get out of your comfort zone in order to take the action that will produce a new result (unless your previous results are exactly what you still want to experience. In that case, keep doing what you’ve been doing.).
If you’re looking, as I always am, for a master mind group or an accountability partner or a new learning opportunity, consider joining us January 31 for our 6-week “C’mon Get REAL!” course. It will be online using the Zoom platform, and you’ll be connected with a group of people up to the same kind of things you are.
You’ll get a downloadable workbook and 6 90-minute classes where you can connect with others to determine your greatest impact on those in your life (including yourself!).

If you don’t change direction you will end up where you are headed. And the best investment you will ever make is in yourself. So … what are you waiting for? As Nike told us: JUST DO IT!
